Conservative Republican Bill SmithRepublican Bill Smith:
A
Proven Record of Conservative Leadership to Build Our Communities

A Fiscal Conservative Who Knows How to Pinch a Penny
Every day as a Niceville City Councilman, and as Director of Facilities for the Okaloosa School District, Bill Smith is proving he is conservative with our tax dollars and he knows how to keep services up and taxes down.  Over the last eight years as a city councilman, Bill has been part of every decision made to save tax dollars and maintain Niceville’s family oriented environment and quality of life.  The city recently earned the distinction of being voted the best place to raise children in Florida by Bloomberg Businessweek.com. Bill also is demonstrating his skills at stretching local tax dollars as Director of Facilities for the Okaloosa School District, where he is keeping our schools functional and safe while dealing with shrinking resources.  Bill recently saved local taxpayers nearly $1 million by securing state funding for the construction of sidewalks to increase the safety of children walking to and from schools in neighborhoods which had no sidewalks. As county commissioner, Bill Smith will pinch every penny and get the most out of your hard earned tax dollars.

Qualified to Manage Large Budgets and Taxpayer Dollars
Dealing with large budgets and meeting community needs – while making the tough decisions necessary to be cost effective – is no easy task. As Okaloosa County Growth Management Director, Director of Facilities for the Okaloosa School District and a Niceville City Councilman, Bill Smith has a long record of efficiently managing large budgets, meeting local needs, and protecting our tax dollars. As county commissioner, Bill will make the tough decisions necessary to both maintain our quality of life and hold the line on taxes.

Significant Experience in Long-range Planning
Nothing is more important than long-range planning in maintaining our quality of life. And no other candidate has more experience and success with long-range planning than Bill Smith. Bill served as Okaloosa County Growth Management Director and is currently Director of Facilities for the Okaloosa School District. Bill managed the construction and development of the family friendly Bluewater Bay Resort and community east of Niceville. He is a two term president of the Florida Education Facilities Planning Association, former member of the Niceville Planning and Zoning Board. Bill Smith will use his considerable experience in long-range planning and growth management to prepare our community for future challenges and to protect our quality of life.

Leadership to Create Jobs and Grow Our Economy
Bill Smith will bring leadership to help create new jobs and bring economic growth to our communities. Bill will utilize Okaloosa County’s existing resources, such as the Bob Sikes Airport near Crestview, to help create new industry and new jobs unrelated to the military or local tourism. Bill strongly supports partnerships and endeavors which, in addition to bolstering our economy and providing jobs, make good use of resources and provide training or educational opportunities, such as a local fish hatchery or similar enterprise. Bill’s vision for economic growth includes the development of a local “Technology Park” which will provide new jobs and clean industry for skilled workers in Okaloosa County today and into the future. With Bill Smith as county commissioner, Okaloosa County will be open for business.

Former Small Business Owner
Bill Smith knows what it is like to balance a tight budget, meet a payroll every week and efficiently manage resources. As a former small business owner involved with several successful Okaloosa County businesses dating back to 1972, Bill also knows the importance of providing true customer service.  As our county commissioner, Bill will use his business experience to make government more cost effective and taxpayer friendly.

Resourceful Problem Solver
With a history of public service dating back over three decades, Republican Bill Smith has learned the best way to solve problems is to plan ahead and work hard to avoid them in the first place. When unforeseen problems do arise, we can trust Bill Smith to use the experience and insight gained as a teacher, public servant, business owner, planner, manager and civic volunteer to find sensible, cost-effective solutions.

Protecting Senior Citizens
Bill Smith is keenly aware that senior citizens on fixed incomes are often hurt most whenever the cost of living increases. Many of our retired residents rely on fixed incomes that make any increase in property or other taxes difficult to financially manage. Bill considers it a duty to protect low-income seniors from higher costs associated with local government. Also, with Okaloosa County’s senior population growing, Bill will prepare for the future and help make Okaloosa County more “senior friendly” by
working with partners in the public, private and nonprofit sectors to develop programs which will allow senior citizens to live independent lifestyles and enjoy a high quality of life.

Long History of Public Service
Republican Bill Smith has a commitment to our community, families and senior citizens which goes back 35 years or more. Bill is a dedicated local “Tools for Schools” volunteer recognized nationally for his contribution to our schools. His commitment and hard work on behalf of our youth and youth sports has been recognized by the All Sports Association of Northwest Florida, which has awarded Bill Lifetime Membership. Bill’s public service includes immense support and close association with members of the military and our local bases. Bill has been named both Honorary Commander of 33rd Fighter Wing, Eglin AFB and Honorary Commander of 513th EWS, Eglin AFB. Bill’s dedication to public service, local military, youth and community will help him be a better county commissioner.

PROVEN. CONSERVATIVE. PROBLEM SOLVER.
